Save our moors

Moors help nature

What is a moor?

In the photo above, you can see a moor.
A moor is a wet area in nature.
In moor areas, there is lots of water in the ground.

Why are moors so important?

Moors are special places in nature.
Moors are a home for many animals and plants.
Some of these animals and plants are in danger.

But moors are important in other ways too!

  • They give us clean air.
  • They are like a sponge.
  • They suck up bad things.

This means that plants, animals and people can breathe better.

There are not many moors left.
There are moors in Germany.
But many moors in Germany are very damaged.

What happens when moors are destroyed?

In Germany, lots of moors are damaged or destroyed.
That is bad for people.
It is bad for nature, plants and animals.

We need to take care of our moors.
This will make us all healthier.
It will make nature healthier.

What does the Loki Schmidt Foundation do?

The Loki Schmidt Foundation is a group that helps moors.
It buys moor land in Germany.

Why?

To help people protect moors better.

It means that moors can stay:

  • Wet
  • Natural
  • Good for animals and nature

The Futurestories Foundation is helping this project.
We want to save our moors.

Futurestories. A middle-aged man stands outside. He wears a grey shirt. He holds binoculars. In the background, you see green plants and a healthy moor. The picture shows why moors are important. Moors help protect nature. Moors also store natural CO₂.

„A healthy moor has a huge impact. It buffers heavy rainfall, stores CO₂ for centuries and provides a habitat for rare species. That’s why every meter of moorland protection is worthwhile.“
