Nature and business are important for the Ems

Master Plan Ems 2050: We want a healthy river

The Ems is a river in Germany.
This river is important for nature.

The Master Plan Ems 2050 wants to:

  • Keep the river healthy for plants and animals.
  • Help plants and animals have a good life in and around the river.
  • Make the river water cleaner.
  • Make sure boats can use the river.

Nature and business are both important for the Ems river.

Business means:

  • People can work.
  • People can buy things.
  • People can sell things.

For business, people need things like:

  • Companies
  • Jobs
  • Boats

If boats can use the Ems river, the people there can work.
Then they can have a good life.

What is happening with the Master Plan?

WWF is an organisation that helps the environment.
That means it works for nature and the earth.
WWF has helped many projects before.

It is helping the Master Plan:

  • It is sharing what it knows.
  • It is sharing what it learns from other projects.
  • It is checking the Master Plan’s work.

WWF is helping:

  • Make the Ems river healthy again.
  • More animals and plants live along the river again.

WWF is doing other things too:

  • WWF is showing people how the Master Plan is working.
  • WWF is teaching people about the river Ems.
  • WWF is telling people why it is important to protect rivers.

WWF protects nature.
WWF teaches people about protecting nature.
This helps more people understand why protecting the river Ems is important.
It is important for nature and for people.

Why is the river Ems special?

The river Ems shows us something.
Sometimes it is difficult for nature and business to work together.
The river Ems is a good example of that.

WWF wants to find ways to help.
To help nature stay safe.
But to also help business.

The Ems needs to be a healthy river again:

  • So animals and plants can come back.
  • So people can enjoy the river.
  • So business near the Ems works well now and in the future.

This project is until 2050.

The Master Plan Ems 2050 is an agreement to help protect the Ems River. This plan will last for 35 years.
The project is creating more homes for birds in grassy areas. So far, the project has already saved 86 hectares of land.
This is more than 120 football fields!
Silt is like mud. Silt is often found in rivers and lakes.
The Ems River in Germany has a problem because it has too much silt.

„Rivers are lifelines. With the Ems 2050 Master Plan, we are protecting the Ems in the long term and at the same time giving the region a sustainable perspective.“
