About us

We are Futurestories

Why we exist and what we want to achieve

Futurestories – a simple, solid green abstract shape with three rounded points on a plain light grey background – resembles an irregular blob or an abstract leaf, perfectly reflecting the creative spirit of Futurestories Foundation About us.
Futurestories – three people stand on a purple cliff, gazing at an orange sun rising over distant hills. One with a rucksack stands upright while the others crouch or sit beside them - capturing the spirit of exploration that is at the heart of the Futurestories Foundation About Us.

We have overexploited our planet. Ecosystems and material cycles are at risk of becoming unbalanced, and the resulting crisis poses global challenges for people and nature. That is why we support projects that protect and promote people and nature at the same time. Projects that open doors for young people. That make diversity visible. That bring women into leadership positions. And to take new paths when old ones no longer lead to the goal. We select our partnerships and projects ourselves. Applications are only possible at our invitation.

Our values

Courage

We take a potential-oriented and progressive approach to ecological and social challenges, no matter how great they may be. Innovation and a willingness to take risks are part of our concept. We not only have courage, we also spread it.

Diversity

We are open-minded and inclusive. We do not tolerate any right-wing ideas and are committed to social cohesion and strong democracies. We expect the same from our partners.

Sincerity

No matter who we talk to or work with: We do it respectfully and at eye level. We are honest and you can rely on us.

Writing Futurestories together

Futurestories – a light blue abstract shape that resembles two hills with a circular shape above them on a white background.

The Futurestories Foundation is more than just a funding foundation. We see ourselves as an invitation to everyone to look to the future with energy and potential and to act accordingly. Let’s write futurestories together! For a world that we can leave to our children with a good feeling.

Issues we champion

Futurestories – an illustrated person with glasses and dark hair holds two large green leaves representing the Futurestories Foundation. The yellow background shows abstract floral shapes, and the person is wearing a light-coloured top and a round pendant.

Environmental protection and nature conservation

Protecting the air, water, soil and climate. Valuing biodiversity, habitats and ecosystems. We believe in preserving our environment and the natural world.

Our founder

Dagmar Vogt recognized early on that the future lies in the sun – and founded her own company in 1992. What began with the planning of solar factories now supplies clean energy worldwide: her team builds large solar power plants that show what is possible when technology meets energy.

As one of the first women in the solar industry, Dagmar not only broke new ground – she made her mark. Her contribution to the energy transition has earned her several awards, including Berlin Entrepreneur of the Year. She is a role model for many – especially for women who aspire to operate at the crossroads of technology and entrepreneurship. She understands that a genuine focus on the future also includes a strong social support network, so she has been campaigning for family-friendly working conditions for years.

Dagmar stands for progress with attitude. For energy that connects. And for a mindset that says: We can do this. Together.

Our Executive Board

Uwe Thaden
Chairman of the Executive Board

Uwe is a lawyer.

‘I want to apply my professional and personal experience to something meaningful so I can make an active contribution to solving society’s challenges. Working with a charitable foundation provides me with an opportunity to make an impact independently over the long term – and I want to be a part of shaping change.’

Toni Miersch
Member of the Executive Board

Toni previously held roles in banking and now works in asset management.

‘I want to use my financial expertise and my enthusiasm for cutting-edge technologies to help shape a fairer and more sustainable future. As a father of two young children, I realise every day how important it is to act responsibly today – so that we can create a tomorrow worth living in. That’s why I’m committed to the Futurestories Foundation.’

Our Board of Trustees

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is Matthias Kock, a lawyer based in Berlin. His motivation: to have the secure feeling of being on the right side and supporting the good guys. His vice chairman is Potsdam-based journalist Boris Burauel. He finds it inspiring that Dagmar Vogt invests so much thought and passion into her work with people and nature. Dagmar Vogt herself is an ordinary member of the Board of Trustees, as is Jens-Rainer Jänig. He is the founder and owner of a communications agency in Berlin and firmly believes that the Futurestories Foundation’s approach will benefit society.

Why we do what we do

Futurestories – a minimalist digital illustration for Futurestories Foundation About us shows an orange, semi-circular sun setting behind a rolling green hill, with a purple sky and two purple shapes resembling clouds or cliffs.

Dagmar Vogt founds the Futurestories Foundation 2025 to write stories for a better future. To use her fortune to make a positive contribution for future generations. The foundation is her legacy.

Futurestories – abstract illustration for Futurestories Foundation About us: a person with an orange head, purple shirt, green trousers, brown boots and a rucksack hikes on a green hill in front of a dark purple background.

We don’t need to consult any studies to realize that we are living in a time of multiple crises. We have overexploited our planet’s biosphere and urgently need to act more sustainably.

Futurestories – two illustrated people appear on an abstract purple-and-green background; one stands confidently in patterned trousers and a green top, while the other sits in a speckled shirt and blue trousers – capturing the spirit of Futurestories Foundation About us.

Our goal: to have a dual impact. We support projects that write ecologically and socially successful futurestories. We motivate others to get involved too – for example through updates from the projects and with our inspiring newsletter.

How we select projects: our funding criteria

To ensure that the Futurestories Foundation’s funding has the maximum impact and achieves the best possible results, partnerships and projects must:

  • have a measurable impact
  • have a long-term and sustainable effect (ESG)
  • operate in a professional and transparent manner

The following factors are also important here:

  • The purposes of our foundation
Projects must fit into one of our five fields of activity: environment and climate, animal welfare, youth welfare, charity, or science and research.
  • Impact
Our funding is designed to make a tangible difference and allow decisive progress to be made on projects.
  • Non-profit status
We only work with tax-privileged organisations, which we specifically approach and invite to apply.

Our charter

Futurestories – a light blue abstract shape that resembles two hills with a circular shape above them on a white background.

‘Respectful cooperation, good communication and sustainability are the formative factors in my life,’ writes our founder, Dagmar Vogt, in the preamble to our charter – and these factors also underpin the entire approach at the Futurestories Foundation.

Accessibility

We have chosen our fonts, colors and contrasts so that they not only look good, but are also as accessible as possible. We also offer our website in plain language. If you still notice any barriers, please let us know.

Sustainability

Our website has a particularly small digitalCO2 footprint: it combines sustainable web design with a small page size and optimized data transfer. The Futurestories website loads in less than seconds. It is also hosted on green energy servers at Webgo. We also invest the foundation’s assets sustainably according to ESG criteria.

Impact is important to us. That’s why we only work with the best organizations – such as the Loki Schmidt Foundation.

Futurestories – a hand holds four illustrated cards – a building, an open book, a bird with a worm and the green branch of a plant – against a green background that reflects the mission of Futurestories Foundation About Us.

We support projects from a wide variety of different sectors – including projects that protect moors or support the rewilding of a major German river, for instance.
